San Sebastián Nightlife Guide: The Best Bars, Cocktail Spots & Clubs in Donostia

San Sebastian may be famous for its pintxos and Michelin‑starred dining, but once the sun dips behind La Concha, the city reveals a stylish nightlife scene. With stylish cocktail bars to late‑night dancing by the sea and intimate jazz bars tucked into the Old Town, nights here are effortlessly cool rather than chaotic.

While you’re here, check out my Ultimate 4-day San Sebastian Itinerary  and my Go-To Guide for The Best Pintxos in the City.

Here’s where to go when the lights go down.

Bar Arraun

If you only go to one bar, make it this one. You might need to get there early or make a reservation as this place fills up, fast. With a small speakeasy-type interior, nestled on a side street in the heart of the Old Town, Bar Arraun has some of the best mixologists I have ever encountered. Not only are they creative and extremely talented, but the staff are super friendly, adding to the charm of this loveable spot. With old school disco music providing pleasant ambiance accompanied by dim lighting, and serving up some of the best cocktails Spain has to offer, this place was so good we became regulars – and I am sure you will see why.

Bar Enso

The only cocktail bar to rival Bar Arraun, Bar Enso is a relatively new establishment which not many know about. It specialises in Japanese-influenced mixology and creative cocktails, and the interior is simply stunning. With a luxury feel and excellent quality drinks to match, this is a must-visit when visiting San Sebastian.

Akelarre’s Terrace

For something more refined and outside of the Old Town, Akelarre’s terrace offers an unforgettable setting for evening drinks. The views are spectacular, the mood is calm and sophisticated, and it’s ideal if you’re after a slower, more luxurious start to the night rather than a party scene. Think quiet conversations, coastal air, and a sense of occasion. This is a great sunset spot, but don’t forget to reserve as seating for their iconic pods is limited.

Zenit Convento San Martín

Set inside a former church, Zenit Convento San Martín delivers one of the most atmospheric cocktail experiences in San Sebastián. The historic setting gives it an instant wow‑factor, while the drinks feel contemporary and well‑considered. It’s perfect for an early‑evening cocktail or a refined nightcap when you want something memorable but low‑key.

Atari: An Old Town Classic

Right in the heart of Parte Vieja, Atari is a San Sebastián institution. Lively, social, and always buzzing, it’s a great place to stop for a drink as you move between pintxos bars. The energy spills out onto the street, making it ideal for soaking up the city’s nightlife without committing to a full club night.

Bataplan Disco: Dancing by the Sea

Few clubs can rival Bataplan Disco when it comes to setting. Located right on the beachfront, this legendary venue pairs late‑night dancing with insane views over the water. It’s energetic, glamorous, and one of the most iconic nightlife spots in San Sebastián – ideal if you want to end the night properly. Opening at midnight and closing at 6am, you are in for a lively night at Bataplan.

La Gintonería: Gros’ Go‑To Gin Bar

Over in Gros, La Gintonería is all about expertly made gin and tonics in a relaxed, local setting. It’s a great alternative to the Old Town scene and perfect if you’re bar‑hopping in this neighbourhood or easing into the evening with a well‑balanced drink. If you’re in the local neighbourhood, it’s worth visiting.

Altxerri: Jazz and Local Soul

For live music lovers, Altxerri is a hidden gem. This intimate jazz bar draws a local crowd and offers a more cultural take on nightlife. It’s unpretentious, atmospheric, and a refreshing change from the city’s busier bars. With one show a night, check seasonal opening times and try to get there early to secure a spot!

Museo del Whisky: Old‑School Charm

Finish the night somewhere truly unique at Museo del Whisky. With live piano music and an old‑world feel, it’s the kind of place where time slows down and conversations linger. A classic choice for a final drink that feels distinctly San Sebastián.They have hundreds of bottles of old whiskey on display to browse at your leisure. Get there before 11-midnight and get a seat at the piano bar.

GU: Sunset Cocktails to Late‑Night Clubbing

If there’s one place that defines San Sebastián nightlife, it’s GU. Perched right on the bay, this is the ultimate sunset spot – arrive early for cocktails with panoramic views over La Concha, then stay as the atmosphere shifts seamlessly into a full‑blown nightclub later in the evening. It’s polished, buzzy, and a rite of passage for a night out in the city.
