Phnom Penh Nightlife Guide: Best Rooftop Bars + Bassac Lane Bar‑Hopping

Phnom Penh’s nightlife is quieter and more refined than some Southeast Asian capitals. Evenings here kick off with sunset views, followed by rustic bars.

The ideal night in Phnom Penh starts above the city, watching the river and rooftops glow at sunset, before dropping down to Bassac Lane for low‑key but lively bar‑hopping. This guide covers exactly where to go, and how to plan it.

Start the Night with Rooftop Drinks

Rooftop bars are Phnom Penh’s standout nightlife feature. They’re relaxed, scenic, and perfect for easing into the evening after a hot day of sightseeing.

Le Moon Rooftop

Set above the riverside, Le Moon is one of the city’s classic rooftop bars and an excellent first stop. The terrace looks out over the Tonlé Sap and Mekong rivers, with views toward the Royal Palace area. It’s informal, comfortable, and ideal for sunset. Arrive between 5.30–6.30pm for golden light and a gentle atmosphere.

SORA Sky Bar

For a more dramatic viewpoint, SORA sits high above the city and delivers wide skyline views that feel very different to the riverside rooftops. This is the most luxurious spot in Phnom Penh, situated on top of the Rosewood Hotel. The space is modern and buzzy, with cocktails priced beyond traditional Cambodian expectations. It’s best for sunset into early evening before the wind picks up.

Mawsim Gin Bar

Mawsim Gin Bar offers indoor seating and a serious gin menu. It’s calm, polished, and works well as a follow‑up to rooftop drinks. Reservations are recommended on weekends. This is a good follow-up bar after visiting SORA, with a short walking distance.

Bassac Lane: Phnom Penh’s Best Bar‑Hopping Spot

Once the sun has set, head to Bassac Lane – a short tuk‑tuk ride from most central hotels.

Bassac Lane is a compact street lined with small cocktail bars, casual drinking spots, and late‑opening venues. It’s social without being chaotic, making it one of the easiest places in the city to hop between bars on foot. Expect a mixed crowd of travellers, expats, and locals, offering a relaxed but lively evening atmosphere

You don’t need a strict plan here – part of the fun is moving with the mood. That said, Aura is a good starting point for rooftop cocktails.

This rustic area has so much to offer, so allow yourself to get lost and let the street guide you.
