Whether you’re here for romance, photography, food, or pure relaxation, this Ultimate Santorini Itinerary breaks down exactly how to spend your time on the island without missing the iconic highlights.

This post covers:

Exploring Oia

Looking for restaurants in Oia? Check out my full Santorini restaurant guide here.

Ammoudi Bay

Walk (or taxi) down to Ammoudi Bay, one of Santorini’s prettiest dining spots. It is a beautiful little bay with such a charm. Not one to be missed!

Do not miss the fresh seafood at one of the many waterfront taverns. We went here several times on our trip and no matter which spot you choose, the food and drink quality is just fabulous! I will warn, as with anywhere in Oia, the prices are higher here than other spots on the island.

Shopping in Oia

The shopping in Oia is not spoken about nearly enough. While it is not cheap, it is not “out of bounds” expensive. Any of your purchases are definitely going to be a luxury, but the quality and style make it truly unique and special. Real silk dresses can be found around EUR 150 upwards. Bags can be found around EUR 80 upwards.

Oia is the best place to shop on the island for stunning items. But try boutiques closer to Kamari beach if you are looking for a cheaper price tag.

Watch the famous Oia sunset

Oia is world‑renowned for its sunsets, with crowds gathering nightly around the castle ruins and caldera viewpoints to watch the sky turn pink and gold over the Aegea

What to Do and See in Thira - Santorini’s Capital

Looking for restaurants in Thira? Check out my full Santorini restaurant guide here.

Watch the sunset from the caldera
Fira’s cliff‑top position makes it one of the best places on the island to catch the sunset, with caldera‑view bars and terraces offering uninterrupted views across the Aegean.

Explore the winding old town streets
Spend time wandering Fira’s narrow lanes, which are lined with boutique shops, jewellery stores, cafes, and art galleries –  ideal for a relaxed afternoon stroll.

Visit the Archaeological Museum of Thera
Located in the heart of Fira, the museum houses important finds from Ancient Thera, offering insight into the island’s history beyond its postcard views.

Take the cable car to the Old Port
Ride the scenic cable car down to the Old Port for dramatic views, boat excursions, or a waterfront drink before heading back up.

Enjoy sunset cocktails with a view
Fira is home to some of Santorini’s best sunset bars, where DJs create an ambient soundtrack as the sky changes colour – perfect for easing into the evening.

The Ultimate Day Trip in Santorini

A catamaran cruise is one of the best things you can do in Santorini. Book here.

Expect:

  • Swimming at Red Beach & White Beach
  • Snorkelling
  • A terrific BBQ lunch
  • Volcanic hot springs
  • Caldera sunset (if sunset cruise) – recommend!

Where to Stay in Santorini

One of the best hotels in Santorini’s Oia is Andronis Arcadia. This provides pure luxury, and is everything you think of when you dream of Santorini. The hotel complex offers spacious suites, private pools, and some of the best sunset views on the island without the crowds of Oia’s main strip.

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Pacman Sunset Restaurant – Arcadia, is a destination in itself, serving elevated Mediterranean‑Asian dishes with live music and a stunning open‑air setting. Service throughout the hotel is exceptional, with staff that genuinely elevate the experience.

If you want a luxury Santorini stay with iconic sunsets, private‑pool suites, and a laid‑back but sophisticated atmosphere, Andronis Arcadia is one of the best hotels in Oia. You can book through this link.

Nightlife in Santorini - Best Areas To Spend An Evening and Best Beach Clubs

Santorini isn’t a particularly lively island compared with neighbouring destinations such as Crete, Ios, or Mykonos, so if you’re searching for all‑night partying, you may want to consider another Greek island. That said, the seaside towns of Kamari and Perissa are noticeably more energetic, especially in peak season, with late‑night cocktail bars and a busy beachfront strip.

Oia and Fira are best known for their beautiful sunset bars, where DJs provide a relaxed soundtrack to those iconic caldera views. For anything resembling nightlife, the main focus is Erythroú Stavroú lane in central Fira, where you’ll find a small cluster of bars offering slightly later‑night options. Caldera‑view venues like Tango Bar and PK Cocktail Bar are ideal for starting the evening with drinks and DJs, while spots such as Koo Club and Enigma keep the party going late into the night. It’s a compact scene, but it delivers just enough energy for those looking for a stylish night out rather than an all‑night rave.

If you’re looking for a fun beach day with a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere, Wet Stories in Perissa is a great option. It’s a laid‑back beach club with background music rather than a party scene, offering a chilled vibe with a chic twist. The food and drinks are excellent here, and the overall atmosphere provides a bohemian haven!

Nikki Beach is another standout choice, ideal for a pool‑based day club experience. Expect DJs playing throughout the day, dancers, live entertainment, and regular happy hours. It’s the epitome of luxury beach club culture – just be prepared for the matching luxury price tag.
